UNBROKEN by Kayla Peace
I was inspired to take this photo because of how old the bottles were. They were found in my yard a few years ago and I thought they would be a great vintage, rustic thing to take a picture of. The glass is dirty and they were once filled with alcohol. I like how they sort of bring the picture back in time.

Reaching through the veil by Isabelle Stitt-Frederick's
This picture actually came about by accident. The top photo(hand) of this double negative was a hand against a window and they camera moved and it came out very blurry. The Ouija board was found in my house and I just decided to take a picture of it. As the story goes, I put them together and miraculously it came out.

Misplaced Faith by Tyna McDevitt
Misplaced Faith by Tyna McDevitt
This photo is to show the significance faith, religion, or spirituality can impact someone's childhood and shadow over them for the rest of their life. The cross is actually a broken hinge with a rosary wrapped around it and then burnt over an image of one of my dear friends who was very reluctant to be shot. This image is very dear to me because of the major role religion, specifically Christianity, played in my life. My mom made it a big deal in my family and now that I'm older I have more freedom to find my own path. The cross here represents a cage and being trapped in one way of life where the person represents thoughts and emotions that fade through the years so you don't hurt anyone else.
The 21 Salute by Tyna McDevitt
The 21 Salute by Tyna McDevitt
The 21 Salute is a piece which has items of mementos
from my brother. The main focus is on a beret my brother bought for me at a
thrift store when I went to visit him in the army, laying on top of the beret
is a knife I had inherited after his death, his dog tags lay scattered next to the
knife also on top of the beret. In the sand next to the beret is a gun shell
from the 21-salute from his funeral and a toy solider I picked up in a toyshop
in New Orleans on a mission trip after the trip to Arizona for the funeral.
The
image is supposed to portray an emotional sense of loss. Not only is it to give
an emotional reaction to the viewer of sadness but also bring hope for a better
future for our country. It shows how much is sacrificed when my brother left to
fight in Afghanistan. The toy soldier is to represent our childhood memories
and growth into the new day. The beret give an emotional response for me
personally because my brother bought it for me knowing I wanted to grow up and
be just like him. Now, I see it and feel remorse for all the time I was given
with him that I wasted. The picture is shot in the sand because one of my
fondest memories of him is at the beach for a mission trip in Panama, Florida.
