Downward Spiral

Taken by Dana Pistone
Model: Vianca Lugo

This photograph was taken for a photoshoot that I entitled "Masks and Frames". The other images portrayed Vianca wearing the mask in dead-on portraits. This print contains a more interesting angle and composition than I usually use, which has showed me that I need to create more work like this.

Truth Untangled

For the spirituality assignment, I wanted to capture and encompass something that has nothing to do with religion or specific beliefs, but something that has a more individual meaning, one that the viewer can interpret and relate to based on his or her own life experiences. The setting, the way the girls lounge, and their connection to nature and the environment hopefully speaks to the inner spirit of all viewers. I hoped to capture what I felt and witnessed as I photographed them; their carefree, pure, free-spirits, and the inner peace that radiated through their skin and made them seem somewhat goddess-like, even angelic. Using filters, I wanted to create the most contrast possible, especially because the girls were wearing white and the background of the forest is so dark. I think the contrast definitely adds to the visual impact of the photo and its meaning, whatever it may be to each individual.

Believe.

This is a double negative of "praying" hands and the view from my back porch. My theme is spirituality and I really think when people view my photo that's what they would think of. I picked these two pictures and put them together because praying is what people do when they want to "speak" to a "higher" power and the background of the sky and sunrise makes the feeling pop even more.

Cheeky

"CURLED"

My main idea for this project was trying to portray emotion in each photo.
I like to think I succeeded,, mainly because everytime I look at her face in the photo I just sense depression. Overall, I am very proud of this photo.
