CHILDHOOD

I was inspired to take this photo right after we had gotten about a foot of snow.  I loved the way the trees and everything outside look like a "winter wonderland".   I went outside looking for something that really caught my eye.  I was trying to focus on the first swing the most.  I liked the way the white snow looked piled against the black swing seats.  I'm happy with the way it came out.

Madeline

My photo is of Maddie.  This is one of my favorite photos.  I chose this picture because I love the way the light highlights her face.  I feel that this is my most successful picture this semester.  I chose this viewpoint so that you could see all the emotions on her face.  I really like the way all the highlights accent Maddie.

The Frozen Little Boy

My photo is the head of a little statue.  I chose this view point because I liked the way that the bricks  in the background go off in a diagonal angle.  This photo reminds me of the volcanic eruption in Pompeii.  It looks as if someone is frozen in ashes because of the volcanic eruption.  My photo is somewhat sad because of the way the statues head is held.  The statue almost looks as if it is crying.  I believe that this photograph could pull a great amount of emotion out of someone who had experienced the Pompeii volcanic eruption.

My 5x8 print for this class is my friend smoking in the shower.  I chose this particular photo because it was one of the few that I set up carefully with lighting and pose.  It is also one of the few that you can see some water and smoke clearly.  There were a few problems with it I know, such as lighting and composition.  It's still my favorite photo I've done and am proud of it.  I like it's irony with water and smoke and my best friend is in it so it makes me happy, although I hate smoking.

A Look into Heaven

The reason I took this photo was because I wanted to capture the Gothic architecture of this church.  For some reason, I just loved the way the church looked on the inside and out.  I chose this angle to show what a person up close and giving attention to detail of the old building would see.  As I was looking at the church, I began to think of how much contrast the camera will show, and it did.  I would say this photo is religious, Gothic and whole.

Peacocks

I love peacocks and I have for a long time.  I think they're so beautiful and they influence me to think I'm beautiful regardless of what other people think.  I chose this view of the peacock feather because it captured the whole feather along with the detail in the design.  When I look at this photo, I see beauty.  When I see beauty I think of how insecure I am, but looking at the peacock's feather makes me feel beautiful.

Hydrangia

My inspiration for this photo was its beauty.  The flower surrounded by the leaves stood out to me.  The way the light hit the leaves was why I chose that angle.  It brings out the detail.  When I look at this picture, it reminds me of Spring when all the flowers are blooming.

Daytime Reflections

When I was walking at Kingston point, I saw the flooded park and how calm the water was.  The reflection of the water was so clear it looked like I could touch it.  The reflection of the posts is so clear that the water looks like a continuance of them and makes them look longer.

LITTLE LOGGER

My 5x8 photo is of my little brother and I wanted to take the picture because I thought he would look really cute.  The assignment was framing so I wanted to get a frame in the picture.  I chose to do it at a side angle because I thought the frame looked more interesting than it did when it was straight on.  There was a lot of contrast between his shirt and the background which I took into account.  This photo makes me feel like my brother has so much emotion for such a little kid.  I would describe this photo as woodsy and thoughtful.

Cooling Cookies

Cooling Cookies= Walking into my aunts living room, I knew immediately what would make a good shot.  It's as if you could reach out and grab a cookie from the picture.  I love the perspective of the table curving away as the cookies shrink in size.  The lighting is all natural, coming from the window behind the table.  The spatula is almost hidden because of the angle it's at. No, I did not notice the plate on the edge of the table, but it does add to the excitement.  There is lots to look at and much to keep you engaged.  That is why I chose this photo and why it is one of my best pictures.

"To the East"

This photo is of one of my best friends.  I decided to use her for this project because she is very photogenic and she has great poses. I chose to crop the image because the most captivating angle was of her facing the back, and having her off to the side.  I zoomed in because otherwise the picture lost the interesting components.  This is my most successful photo because it has a cool subject I think, and I enjoy pictures that are zoomed in and side profiles of faces.

I chose my double negative for my 5x8. I was inspired to make those two pictures a double negative because I really liked the geometric shapes and high contrast of the first photo and I thought a delicate portrait of a baby would set off an interesting mood to the picture. I feel this photo has a few different moods, depending on how I look at it. It has some what of and angelic feel, like your looking up towards the baby, which reminds me of innocence . The bokeh makes it look like the angle is upward. From the other perspective it looks like the picture seems kind of creepy, because the baby's expression is somewhat sad looking and she looks trapped behind the sharp, black object in front of her.
